Updated regulation, legislation and the impact of Covid-19 are all leading to the rapid evolution of the covenant landscape. 

The Pension Schemes Act 2021 has introduced tougher penalties where DB pension schemes are mistreated, including criminal sanctions. Climate related factors and long-term covenant reliance are coming into sharper focus and the long-awaited new code of practice on scheme funding is expected to return to the agenda in the near future.
