LCP Delta involved in three innovative projects that have received Ofgem funding

LCP Delta are part of three collaborations that have received funding from Ofgem’s Strategic Innovation Fund (SIF). The SIF is funded by Ofgem, the UK’s independent energy regulator, and delivered by Innovate UK, part of UK Research and Innovation.

The Strategic Innovation Fund (SIF) is designed to drive the innovation needed to transform gas and electricity networks for a low-carbon future.

The projects that LCP Delta are involved with and have been granted funding are:

• Electric Thames is a collaboration between LCP Delta, Marine Zero and UKPN. The project will map out the future of the electricity system around the Thames and explore new technologies such as Boat-to-Grid (B2G) services. The outcomes will shape a whole-system planning framework for our waterways, offering insights for decarbonisation and electrification that can be replicated across GB.
• Gas Volume for Embedded Electrical Generation Modelling is a collaboration between LCP Delta and the Gas Distribution Networks, led by Southern Gas Networks. Gas distribution networks (GDNs) require a new forecasting framework to manage the increasingly disruptive demands from flexible embedded generators, a need recognised by the ‘Electricity and Gas Resilience Task Group’ (EGRITG).This project will design a notification platform for embedded generators to inform GDNs of upcoming demands, combined with electricity market forecasting and advanced machine learning techniques to refine embedded gas demand forecasts.
• Fuel-cell Renewable Energy Equity (FREE) is a collaboration between Northern Powergrid, LCP Delta and EA Technology. This project will explore how fuel cell micro Combined Heat and Power (CHP) systems can provide uninterruptible power supply (UPS) functionality for individual homes as well as support other nearby homes which depend on direct electrification to provide heat, power and mobility.
