Rachika Cooray
I lead LCP’s Governance and Trustee Executive Services. My work focuses on helping trustee boards run more effectively, make clearer decisions and feel confident in their governance frameworks.
I specialise in the areas that sit at the heart of strong scheme management: risk, board effectiveness, operational strategy and trustee capability. I enjoy working closely with boards to turn complex expectations into practical, proportionate and meaningful action. As an experienced scheme manager myself, I understand the real operational pressures trustees and inhouse teams face, and this shapes the way I work.
A consistent thread throughout my career is a belief that good governance should be accessible to every scheme, regardless of size or resource. This principle has driven much of my industry work: co-authoring leading guides on ESOG and ORA, creating the “Ask the ORAcle” video series, and helping translate the Pensions Regulator’s General Code into practical steps that any board can follow. My guidance is widely used across the industry, and I regularly contribute to consultations, regulatory discussions and conversations about the future of trusteeship and good governance.
Some of my most rewarding work has involved helping schemes rethink how they operate. I played a lead role in the landmark outsourcing of the National Grid UK Pension Scheme’s Executive to LCP, a transition that has become a model for schemes considering their long-term operational strategy. I now help to lead the National Grid Executive team, supporting the Trustee across all aspects of scheme management.

We decided to outsource the role of Scheme Secretary to LCP just before we embarked on a fast-track journey to buy-in, buy-out and wind-up. It was a demanding project for the Trustees but Rachika made our jobs easier by providing proactive, expert support to help us stay focused on strategic matters.
Chair of Trustees
Rachika and her team are a pleasure to work with. As governance specialists they understand all aspects of scheme management and, over the years, their valuable recommendations have helped us improve our governance frameworks and how the board operates. The LCP team certainly bring fresh ideas to our discussions.
