Shyam Gharial
I am an actuary and began working in the industry in 2006. My experience spans investment, pensions and sustainability.
I am a member of the Responsible Investment team at LCP supporting both our institutional investor clients directly and indirectly, via my colleagues, to reduce risks and capture opportunities related to ESG / sustainability issues. As part of that I attempt to source and research specialist sustainability-related investment funds, spanning multiple asset classes including equity, debt and real assets (across both private and public markets). I lead some research projects and provide specialist support to colleagues on others.
My client-facing consulting work focuses on compliance with sustainability-related regulation as well as on incorporating sustainability aims into existing mandates and bringing new sustainability-related investment options to the table. I aim to show investors that having a real-world positive impact on the environment and society through their investments is not only compatible with, but also fundamental to, achieving their long-term investment goals.
I was previously a member of the Sustainability Board at the Institute and Faculty of Actuaries, where my focus was on the UN Sustainable Development Goals. I contributed to incorporating sustainability-issues into the actuarial course materials.
In terms of my own non-actuarial study, I have completed various courses covering ESG, climate change, sustainability and energy through a range of institutions.
