In this week’s episode, Jacob Shah and Laasya Shekaran chat to Torsten Sløk, Partner and Chief Economist at Apollo. With Torsten we discuss whether markets are currently in a bubble, how this is related to AI and inflation, and the current challenges being faced by central banks.
In part two of our interview with Torsten we discuss:
- Why we may see no interest rate cuts this year and how this is related to markets reaching all-time highs.
- The distributional impacts of interest rate rises on different demographics and whether there’s a better way to address high inflation.
- The transmission of monetary policy and effectiveness of interest rate rises in controlling inflation in the current environment.
- What we need to observe to have confidence that inflation is coming under control and target consistent.
What’s one thing you would like listeners to take away?
If inflation is going to be a problem for longer and therefore interest rates are going to be higher for longer, then you should be in front end fixed income and higher up the quality spectrum.
