Heat and EV key player strategies

Energy transition

An assessment of the market opportunity for Software-as-a-Service (SaaS) solutions to support EV chargepoint and heat pump installations.

The background

The client is a software provider that have developed a suite of SaaS products focussed on delivering cost and operational efficiency. Given the expansion of the heat pump and EV chargepoint markets, the client was interested in understanding the opportunity for them of entering these markets.

What the client needed and their key question(s)

The project addressed two core questions:

  1. What is the addressable market for providing SaaS offerings to the EV chargepoint infrastructure and heat pump markets in the UK? and
  2. What is the business need and opportunities for the client?

Our solution

We adopted a four-stage approach to deliver this research.

Firstly, we worked closely with the client to understand their existing SaaS product range and previous applications. This included reviewing product brochures and organising live product demonstrations.

The second stage drew on our market-leading expertise to provide the client with a detailed understanding of EV chargepoint infrastructure and heat pump markets. For both markets we assessed the size, value chain, composition, and active key players.

For stage three, we identified pain points associated with the installation of EV chargepoint infrastructure and heat pumps. This insight was provided through our internal knowledge, desk-based research and verifying with industry experts.

The final stage drew together findings from all stages. Using our knowledge of the client’s products we were able to highlight realistic opportunities for them by mapping the pain points across the client’s product suite.

Our impact

Our research helped the client better understand the composition of these new markets and opportunities for their products. The client is now developing new SaaS products that capitalise on some of the opportunities highlighted through our research.
